Equity Teams for Positive School Change

Equity Teams for Positive School Change is a RE·Center program designed for students, administrators, and teachers to co-create equitable school environments where everyone has what they need to grow and thrive.

By engaging in a three-year process of grade-wide leadership workshops, teacher professional learning and development, and yearly retreats, school community members will increase their ability to identify inequitable school practices, policies, and procedures and be empowered to co-create new institutional school culture and climate.

The goals of the Equity Teams program are:

  1. Increase school communities’ social consciousness around systems of oppression;
  2. Increase school administrations’ internal capacity to identify inequitable school practices, policies, and procedures through the creation and development of equity teams;
  3. Support school communities’ abilities to co-create, enact, and evaluate new equitable practices, policies, and procedures that foster a school culture of belonging and racial/cultural affirmation.

*We are currently in our pilot year of Equity Teams and are working with R.J. Kinsella Magnet in Hartford and Sunset Ridge Middle School in East Hartford. If you are interested in bringing Equity Teams to your 6-8 grade school for the 2019-2020 school year, please contact us at info@re-center.org.
